It looks like Mr. Pop is showing signs of getting close to senior citizenship (or a heart attack, like the one that took the life of his friend and Stooges guitar player, Ron Asheton back in January), but in any case, he chose to go a more mellow route, and besides, he’s sick of rock, just recently stating that he’s gotten “sick of listening to idiot thugs with guitars, and bangin’ out crappy music.” He does, however, have an affinity for Louis Armstrong, which in part is the reason for the new genre.

The new album, entitled Préliminaires was inspired by Michel Houellebecq’s novel, La Possibilité d’une île”, more specifically, one of its characters, a dog named Fox, who was even given his own track. As Iggy explains poolside, he made the album especially for the French, and French-speaking people, and believes the novel (and so the new album) is about “death, the end of the human race, and other fun stuff.”

The first single, King of the Dogs (dedicated to Fox) comes with its own interactive video, where you get to choose which dog you’d like to follow around for the day.
