Mackdaddy ‘Mack Sk8’

Just recently, Mackdaddy revealed their latest sneaker, the Mack Sk8. The folks at Mackdaddy probably figured since it’s way too obvious which sneaker “inspired” these, they might as well even name them after the classic Vans skate shoe. However, unlike a lot of other rip-offs, which do nothing in terms of creativity, Mackdaddy has designed something new with the Mack Sk8. They have a Sk8-Hi silhouette, but the clean, minimal side gives them a Chukka feel, and together with the bright colourways, and suede/patent combination, they are more than just Canal Street bootlegs. Look for these to release early next month. We appreciate Mackdaddy for attempting something new, but we can’t mess with this much day-glo. mash rating: 4/10

Nike SB Dunk Low ‘Ron Burgundy’
Tags: 4, Dunk Low, Nike SB, sneakers

It’s no secret that time and time again, Nike turn to films as inspiration for new sneaker colourways. Sometimes they work, other times not so well. The latest sneaker from the SB camp takes cues from The Legend of Ron Burgundy. As opposed to the regular SB Dunks, which have thick, padded tongues, these come with regular, thin tongues – most likely a reference to the anchorman’s tie. Although we love the flick, these fall short of being a classic. You can get them now at LTD. mash rating: 4/10

Jason Jessee x Vans Syndicate Sk8-Hi ‘Notch Back’

Part of the Vans Syndicate Fall/Winter collection is a new pair of the Sk8-Hi model designed by Jason Jessee. The notch back term refers to the cut made into at the rear of the shoe; something rarely seen on the Sk8-Hi. The shoes come with a cinch bag and an extra set of laces. Look for them at selected Vans Syndicate retailers. mash rating: 7/10

Rock Paper Scissors ‘Riot Hands’ Tee

Rock Paper Scissors recently released their new tee. Although we seen the often-used Mickey Mouse hands in streetwear more times than we’d have liked to, the folks at RPS did a good job of breathing life into a dead mouse. You can get the tee at their shop in Seattle, or through the online shop. mash rating: 6/10

Charles Bukowski: Hollywood Tour
Tags: Charles Bukowski, video
Here’s a short video of Charles Bukowski. Not one to refuse alcohol nor women, the writer led quite a memorable life. In the video, Bukowski sits in the back of a convertible that takes him through his old stomping grounds, while he recollects and recalls past experiences. A must see. (If you have yet to watch either 1987’s Barfly, starring Mickey Rourke, or Factotum – both of which are based on Bukowski’s novel, also entitled Factotum – make sure you do so post haste.)

Kenyon Bajus has just released his latest print. The Philadelphia-based artist turned to two classic films for inspiration: Star Wars and Kubrick’s Full Metal Jacket. It’s a two-colour screen print (gloss on matte) depicting a profile of Darth Vader combined with Private Joker’s helmet. It measures 18×24″, is limited to only 100, is signed and numbered by the artist, and can be purchased for a very modest $30 through the artist’s website.
