Tags: 6.5, Nike, Nike Air Safari, sneakers

Part of Nike’s Holiday collection is a new pair of Air Safaris. Originally released back in 1987, the shoe in its original colourway has become one of the most sought after sneakers for collectors. Lately, however, it has only been seen as the base for hybrid model, but now it makes a return in a black/grey/orange colourway. It’s available now at Mita. mash rating: 6.5/10

Barbara Kruger ‘Between Being Born and Dying’
Tags: art, Barbara Kruger, Exhibit

Barbara Kruger has a new installation at New York’s Lever House. Launching last month, the artist covered the entire gallery including the windows with words and phrases. This is what the artist had to say: “I think what I’m trying to do is create moments of recognition. To try to detonate some kind of feeling or understanding of lived experience. I try to deal with the complexities of power and social life, but as far as the visual presentation goes I purposely avoid a high degree of difficulty”. You can view the installation until November 21st.

The Anatomy of Japanese Folk Monsters

Famous Japanese Manga artist, Shigeru Mizuki, has published a new book taking a look at Japanese folk monsters and their anatomy. Entitled, Yōkai Daizukai, it features 85 monsters such as (pictured above) Kuro-kamikiri, aka Black Hair Cutter (a large, black-haired creature that sneaks up on women in the street at night and surreptitiously cuts off their hair) whose anatomical characteristics include a long, coiling tongue covered in tiny hair-grabbing spines, and a sac for storing sleeping powder used to knock out victims. And then there’s Makura-gaeshi, aka Pillow Mover, (a soul-stealing prankster known for moving pillows around while people sleep) who has an organ for storing souls stolen from children, another for converting the souls to energy and supplying it to the rest of the body.
