Sports Story: Michael Essien Will Not Be Playing in the World Cup

Chelsea and Ghana Midfielder, as well as all around cool-guy, Michael Essien will miss this year’s World Cup due to an injury. A statement on Ghana’s official website read: “An evaluation by a combined team of medical experts from the Ghana Football Association and Chelsea Football Club revealed that Essien will not make full recovery until the end of July. The Ghana Football Association wishes him full recovery and a quick return to football action.”

I really only posted this because the Suns vs. Lakers game was incredible, and I have been informed that I ruin the games for people in other time zones, so now you get bad news. You’re welcome.

Delta has just released a new set of t-shirts. The Dutch artist designed a total of five t-shirts featuring his trademark 3D imagery and geometrical patterns, which are now available at Berlin-based retailer, Overkill. Although we’re big fans of his art, it just seems a bit awkward on t-shirts. mash rating: 5/10

During the last presidential election, the phrase “Middle America” was used routinely by both candidates and members of the media. “This constant buzz around ‘Middle America’ sparked my curiosity in what the literal middle of America actually was,” writes the photographer J. Bennett Fitts, “if there was one at all.” As it turns out, the center of the contiguous United States is Lebanon, Kansas, a town of about 250 people that has been greatly affected by rural flight. For his ongoing project, Images from the Center of the Contiguous United States, Fitts explores the landscape of Lebanon, which he photographed several times over the last year. He’ll soon relocate to Lebanon for a three-month stay, during which he will continue photographing as a means of creating a more intimate portrait of the place and its people.

The nerd-gasm that is Computex jumps off next week, but Google’s golden operating system, Chrome OS, won’t be ready in time for the big computer event. “Given Google’s emphasis on Android at its developer conference, it is unlikely that we are going to see much if any Chrome activity at Computex,” said Michael Gartenberg, partner at research and consulting firm The Altimeter Group. “Chrome is probably not ready for prime time.” Even Achilles had a weak heel..
