Tjalf Sparnaay is a Dutch artist who describes his style as Megarealism. Considered to be one of the most important contemporary painters working in Hyperrealism, he mainly concentrates on still life images of food, giving his subjects – which range from fried eggs to hamburgers, from a loaf of bread to desserts – an unreal amount of detail that you can’t help but stare at for minutes. Partly because these items are taken out of the context of their day to day surroundings with the intention of giving them “a soul and a presence.”

Take a look at more of his paintings after the jump.
