Nothing Fancy Minimal Wallets

I think the last time I had a wallet was grade school. I always found them too clunky, too uncomfortable when in my pocket. I’ve tried everything from money clips to card holders but I never found anything slim enough or adequate. However, these new Nothing Fancy wallets by London-based designer Chieh Ting Huang might be exactly what I’ve been waiting for all these years. The non-stitched minimalist wallet is the first product in a range of everyday accessories reimagined for a contemporary lifestyle.

“The wallet has its origins in the classic image of the bundle of banknotes held together by a rubber band. The mission was to create a design with the minimal amount of materials, simplifying the object to its basic function. Each wallet is created from a single piece of leather, requiring no stitching — shortening the time it takes to produce each one and saving on materials. The custom-made rubber bands make placing banknotes and credit cards into the pockets easy yet maintains the security of a traditional stitched wallet. The use of minimal material also reduces the thickness otherwise found in a traditional wallet. The same concept has been applied to an coins case, an iPhone holder and a passport holder for a range of contemporary versions of traditional accessories.”

Unfortunately, they currently aren’t available yet (or I would have already ordered the entire collection), but you can sign up to get notified once they do.

For more than 30 years, George Nelson and Charles and Ray Eames worked with Herman Miller to create iconic designs. While known for pieces like the Coconut chair, Marshmallow sofa, and molded plywood chairs, the truth is there was little these talented designers didn’t do.

From their respective offices in New York and Los Angeles, Nelson and the Eameses oversaw multidisciplinary firms that designed everything from exhibits to films to catalogs. These vintage print ads are just a few examples of the graphic design contributions that defined the visual identity of the Herman Miller brand for decades.

Whatshisname wants to make the uncomfortable comfortable. No one likes looking at dogs doing their business, but the English artist aims to desensitize you to the sight with his new lamps, The Good Boy and the smaller sized, The Good Puppy. The designer says that the “Good Boy lamp was designed as an item of everyday use that makes the user uncomfortable with every use.” He passed that test with flying colours. The lamps take about a month to complete and so far about 100 have been produced. The smaller version goes for £1000 while the larger has a price tag of £2500.
