David B. Smith Gallery is getting set to release a new book featuring the works of Josh Keyes. Titled, Sprout, it showcases the works from his recent exhibit of the same name. It is limited to 1000 and comes with a hand-signed print of “Sowing I”. You can pre-order the book here.

Commemorating the 20th anniversary of Obey, a book entitled Supply & Demand, The Art of Shepard Fairey. It contains over 400 pages of illustrations and text revealing virtually all there is to know about this Shepard Fairey’s work, travels and travails. “From exhibitions, posters, flyers, silkscreens and stickers to high altitude pursuits, citations and police beatings, it’s all documented. The box set comes complete with four limited editions silkscreened posters. It’s available now through Obey’s website.

Christopher Wool & Richard Hell ‘Psychopts’

Artist, Christopher Wool and writer/musician, Richard Hell display their latest works at New York’s Luhring Augustine. The joint venture focuses on their mutual interest in experiences associated with reading. The two created images using a selection of word pairings that are both conceptually estranged yet subliminally connected. The result is something that can either be disassembled to discover the two hidden words, or just appreciated for its visual presence created by them. The works can also be purchased as a book through the Luhring Augustine website.

Guido Mocafico ‘Serpens’

French photographer, Guido Mocafico is a French photographer who is a master of still life. One of his projects, Serpens, is a collection of images using snakes and their natural colours and patterns. The images are available in book form as well.

The Anatomy of Japanese Folk Monsters

Famous Japanese Manga artist, Shigeru Mizuki, has published a new book taking a look at Japanese folk monsters and their anatomy. Entitled, Yōkai Daizukai, it features 85 monsters such as (pictured above) Kuro-kamikiri, aka Black Hair Cutter (a large, black-haired creature that sneaks up on women in the street at night and surreptitiously cuts off their hair) whose anatomical characteristics include a long, coiling tongue covered in tiny hair-grabbing spines, and a sac for storing sleeping powder used to knock out victims. And then there’s Makura-gaeshi, aka Pillow Mover, (a soul-stealing prankster known for moving pillows around while people sleep) who has an organ for storing souls stolen from children, another for converting the souls to energy and supplying it to the rest of the body.

Kanye West ‘Glow in the Dark’ Book

Later this month, Rizzoli will be releasing a new book on Kanye West, focusing on last year’s Glow in the Dark tour. The 288-page book provides a look at on stage performances, behind-the-scenes shots, and also includes conceptual sketches by West, costume designs, and stage models. The book comes with an audio CD featuring the previously unreleased live instrumentals for “Hey Mama”, “Touch the Sky”, “Jesus Walks”, and “I Wonder”, as well as an interview with tour collaborator Spike Jonze.

Carhartt x All City Writers Book

Carhartt reports on a new project they’ve collaborated on with Andrea Caputo, and his new book, All City Writers. Published by Kitchen93, with 1230 pictures, 620 articles, 410 full-colour pages, and more than 250 writers involved, the book aims at exploring New York’s influence on European graffiti in the ’80s. The book is scheduled to release November 7th at Carhartt locations and select book stores. Early next year they’ll launch a European exhibition series with the participation of “All City Writers” contributors at selected Carhartt stores.
