James Jean x Giant Robot ‘Exit Eden’ Skate Decks

For their 15th anniversary, Giant Robot asked artist James Jean to design a set of three decks. They are limited to only 150, and will be available at this year’s San Diego Comic Con. James Jean explains:
“Skating has always seemed to me a courageous activity, and what is courage but an absence of shame. Adam and Eve were expelled from Eden, pitiful in their nakedness, shameful in their new knowledge. However, the rise of science made man and nature transparent, naked again under a microscope and scalpel. We adorn ourselves with knowledge, hiding our private selves under a crimson web, until a bad fall shreds it to the bone.”

James Jean ‘Kindling’ Exhibit
Tags: art, Exhibit, James Jean

James Jean’s first ever solo exhibit opened last weekend at the Jonathan Levine Gallery. The artist has gained a cult following in part due to his work as an illustrator at DC/Vertigo Comics. He has won several awards, and his clients include such names as Nike, Atlantic Records and Playboy.
His Kindling exhibit marks a new chapter in the artist’s career. He has called it quits with illustration and commercial projects, and will focus on fine art. The new works consist of several mediums including oil, acrylic, and mixed media works on both paper and canvas.
The exhibit will be on display until February 7th.
