The Mac & Retna Mural at RVCA Headquarters

Following up on their Vagos y Reinas exhibit, Mac and Retna once again team up; this time to produce a mural outside of the RVCA headquarters. As usual, the finalized work is incredible to say the least.

Artists, Mac and Retna have worked together several times in the past on paitings and murals. Most recently, they even published a book together featuring their collective works. The duo have now teamed up on a joint show put on at Santa Monica’s Robert Berman Gallery, which opened over the weekend. Thanks to Known Gallery, we can bring you some images from opening night.

THE MAC & RETNA ‘Alianza’ Book

Artists Mac and Retna have created artworks together several times. Usually Retna uses his distinctive bold calligraphic brushwork for the background, while Mac places his uniquely stylized faces and figures in the forefront. As we reported last week, Fifty24SF Gallery hosted The Mac’s new, Faces of Life exhibit. Now we bring some photos of the preparation and opening night. (Unfortunately, the Song of Songs print that went up on Paperworks Lab sold out super quick.)

Already seen on the cover of the new issue of Juxtapoz, The Mac’s Song of Songs painting will be available shortly in print form. Made to commemorate the artist’s Faces of Life exhibit - which opens tomorrow - the seven-colour print measures a large 30×40″, and is limited to 50, of which only 5 will be available at the gallery on opening night. Hopefully that means the remaining 45 will be up for grabs online.

Opening this Thursday at San Francisco’ s Fifty24SF gallery is a new exhibit by The Mac. Entitled Faces of Life, the exhibit consists of several medium and large-sized canvasses depicting faces of women Mac personally knows, using black, white and shades of grey, with a touch of colour. The show runs until August 27th.

Upper Playground x Montana ‘Artist Edition’ Spray Cans

Together with Upper Playground, Montana is getting set to release some new, limited edition spray cans. A total of four were created with RETNA and The Mac design one together, while Sam Flores, Mr. Cartoon and MQ each designed a can of their own. Look for these to drop worldwide in the coming weeks. mash rating: 6/10

The Mac Covers Juxtapoz #103

Juxtapoz released their latest issue last week. Issue #103 features two covers. The newsstands get the Clayton Brothers, and lucky subscribers get the cover seen above by The Mac. The magazine also features a 14-page interview with the artist, conducted by David Choe. Over the weekend, Juxtapoz editors also caught up with Mac to ask him a few questions. The Mac ‘Ixtaccihuatl’ Print

The Mac has just come out with a new print, entitled Ixtaccihuatl. The name comes from a mountain in Mexico, which resembles a sleeping woman. The print, which measures 30×30″ and is signed and numbered, is limited to only 75. You can purchase it for $400 through The Mac’s website.
